Description

Producer note: Franck Grux and assistant winemaker Philippe Grillot described 2007 as a "really lovely vintage, at least if you did what was necessary to insure that you were working with impeccably clean fruit. It's not as rich as 2006 but it's extremely precise and while there is presently a touch of austerity, it will round out with a few years in bottle. The reds remind me somewhat of 2001 or 2004 but with a bit more mid-palate fat." Note: It is Maison Leflaive's policy to delay the release of their reds for 1 to 2 years after the mise so these 2007s will not be available immediately. (Frederick Wildman and Sons, www.frederickwildman.com New York, NY; Corney & Barrow, www.corneyandbarrow.com Lay & Wheeler, www.laywheeler.com, and Haynes, Hanson & Clark, www.hhandc.com, UK).

Tasting note: A pretty and very fresh nose of lightly spiced pear and lemon peel with a slight herbal element that is picked up by the racy, crisp and vibrant light to middle weight flavors that possess really lovely delineation on the stony, punchy and refreshing finish. I like the purity here and while a bit more overall depth would be necessary to ascend to the next level, this is really quite good and worth a look.
