Description

The 1999 San Martino throws a heavy deposit, there is abundant oak, but not too much dark chocolate, more of a medium-roast sandalwood and indian spices. Traditional chianti fruit of sour cherries, preserved ginger, almond flowers and ground almonds. Maturity comes across as tomato purée and iron.
After a couple of hours you get aromas of leather, tar and truffles - the nose gets darker and deeper. On the palate you get essential chianti classico fruit, pure sangiovese with sour cherries and ginger, great freshness of herbs like oregano and a great acid focus. The intense fruit is loaded with austere grape tannins, intwined with black pepper and iron. The oak is well integrated and the wine grows with some hours of air. Still youthful, it will keep and develop for years to come. Untroubled by its long sejour in new oak, all 100% sangiovese express a maximum of terroir and typicity.
