2002 Stag's Leap Wine Cellars "Artemis" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Wine & Spirits
A blend from SLWC's three main cabernet vineyards - Fay, S.L.V. and Arcadia - Artemis is full of sweet berry fruit in '02. That liqueur-like sweetness contrasts substantial tannins that are savory and black. The sweet-savory balance gives this wine a Mediterranean feel: dense, warm and appealing. Cellar this to let the tannins mellow. (2/2005)
Connoisseurs Guide
Well-defined aromas of dark cherries, currants and loam make a convincing case for Cabernet here, and the rich, medium-deep, cassis and oak flavors that ensue follow suit fully. Only a bit of acidy tightness and a certain pinching-off at the finish keep this one from higher ranking, and, if left to relax for a few years, it may well round into better shape. (12/2004)
