Wine Advocate 95pts
The 2006 Shiraz was sourced from a single parcel of 98 year old vines yielding a minuscule 0.5 tons of fruit per acre. It was aged for 36 months in seasoned French oak. A glass-coating opaque purple color, it offers up a superb, room-filling bouquet of cigar box, baking spices, smoked meat, lavender, blueberry, and blackberry liqueur. On the palate this harmonious, velvety-textured effort is voluptuous, full-flavored, succulent, and exceptionally long. It has enough structure to evolve for 4-6 years but will be hard to resist early on. Its prime drinking window will extend from 2014 to 2026." Wine Advocate

The wine was dark red, almost black with purple hues. Initial bouquet of fruit, some garden herbs and a bit of cigar box. On the palate, fruit, herbs & spices with a lick of licorice. Fruit - concentrated dark berries but not a fruit bomb. The wood is integrated with a touch of licorice but no coconut or vanilla and I couldn't pick up any chocolate. The tannins are light, fine but not furring up the mouth or detracting from the overall mouth feel which is delicious. The length goes way way back and then a little bit more. Acid must be in balance as there is none poking out . Yummy is an understatement, delicious doesn't do it justice. If I had $500.00 to buy a bottle of Penfolds Grange I would buy five of these. I have one bottle left and I will try and keep this for February next year. In short, an amazing wine. 96
