A unique chance to buy some excellent Rhone wines from top growers in the Northern and Southern Rhone from the outstanding 2005 vintage, which have been aged in the Wine Society's temperature-controlled members' reserves since purchase en primeur (all tax and duty have already been paid).

The wine is at the Society now, which not only means outstanding provenance, but also means that the price will include its excellent delivery service (or, if you're a member, transfer to your storage account if you have one and prefer that).

This 12-bottle mixed case should make for lovely drinking this autumn and winter, and beyond. The growers are excellent, and it's a great selection for someone who wants to savour the contrasts of the Rhone.

TWO bottles: 2005 CORNAS DME DE ROCHEPERTUIS: "Sadly 2005 marks Jean Lionnet’s last vintage having announced his decision to retire. The 2005 is a blackstrap of a wine: thick, sweet and dark. 2011–2020."

TWO bottles: 2005 COTES DU RHONE TERRE D'ARGILE DME DE LA JANASSE: "Châteauneuf-like blend of equal thirds grenache, syrah and mourvèdre, from one of the top estates in the Rhône Valley. This is very full bodied and richly constituted. Outstanding in its class. 2009–2016."

TWO bottles: 2005 CROZES HERMITAGE CUVEE CHRISTOPHE DME DES REMIZIERES: "Classy, full-flavoured Crozes, made from 85-year-old vines from behind Hermitage. Best kept at least four years to allow time for the wine to integrate the oak. 2009–2016."

TWO bottles: 2005 GIGONDAS TOUR SARAZZINE CLOS DES CAZAUX: "Heady, mouth-filling Gigondas to keep winter at bay. Great value for money. 2010-2018."

TWO bottles: 2005 SAINT JOSEPH DME STE EPINE DESESTRET: "This estate has an important concentration of very old vines, some over a hundred years old, which make a full-flavoured sinewy red that merits a little bottle age. The Sainte Epine site, above Tournon, is one of the best in the northern Rhône. Old fashioned wine-making here with no new oak. 2009–2014."

TWO bottles: 2005 VACQUEYRAS LES CHRISTINS PERRIN: "The Perrin family of Beaucastel also a make a very full-bodied Vacqueyras from family-owned vines. The 2005 has great depth of flavour and is laden with thick, tarry blackberry fruit. 2010–2017."
