Description

A rare opportunity to buy a lovely mixed case of aged wines from Paul Draper's (pictured) famed Ridge estate in California. The wine is currently stored in the Wine Society's temperature-controlled members' reserves, and has been since purchase - so excellent provenance. And the price includes UK delivery by the Society, or transfer to another member's storage account, and all tax and duty have already been paid.

Ridge wines have remarkable fruit and complexity, and I've given some details below. The drink dates are the Wine Society's, and I suspect they're quite conservative. There are four bottles each of three wines as follows.

Four bottles: Ridge Santa Cruz Mountains 2004.
Wine Society drink date: 2007 - 2015
This wine was renamed as the Estate Cabernet (though it's a cabernet blend). Ridge's website tells the story, and where the wine comes from. See the history section under the video on this page (which is for a more recent vintage): http://www.ridgewine.com/Wines/Cabernet/Estate%20Cabernet
I've looked around, and I don't think you can actually buy this vintage of this highly regarded wine retail anywhere else on earth. But happy to stand corrected.

Four bottles: Ridge Lytton Springs 2005
Wine Society drink date: 2007 - 2016
Famous Californian zinfandel, with some petite sirah and carignane (seriously, that's how they spell it). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, December 2007, gave it 92 points and described it as follows: "Deep red. Sweet dark berry and kirsch scents are complicated by musky herbs, dried flowers and minerals, with a suave undercurrent of oak spice contributing sweetness. Powerful cassis and bitter cherry flavors are firmed by youthful tannins, which add grip to the finish. Possesses the focus, balance and concentration to repay a decade or more in the cellar."

Four bottles: Ridge Geyserville 2005
Wine Society drink date: 2008 - 2015
Another famous mainly zinfandel wine with a name that's hard to forget. 93 points from Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, December 2007: "Dark red. Seductively perfumed aromas of raspberry, cherry, lavender and minerals lifted by exotic Asian spices. Seems almost light for zinfandel, with a silky texture and deep, sweet red and dark berry flavors. The tannins are nicely folded into the fruit, creeping gently out on the finish. A very impressive blend, with superb balance and flavor definition."

Hope these wines go to one of the many Ridge fans out there, or someone who'll enjoy exploring these fascinating wines.
