Description

The lot consists of two bottles of Tuscan wine:-

One bottle of 1990 Castello di Verrazzano Chianti Classico Riserva.
One bottle of 1993 Barbi Brunello di Montalcino "Colombini Cinelli".

"1990 is the best year in Tuscany since the fabulous 1985 vintage.The wines exhibit terrific color,superripe aromas,wonderful richness,and surprisingly crisp acidity,something that is difficult to achieve in years of great ripeness".

Referring to the 1993 vintage in Tuscany,Robert Parker comments:-
"Although this is an average vintage on paper,the better producers will undoubtedly turn out better cuvees,with good ripeness,but perhaps excessive tannin and acidity"
Parker puts the Barbi Brunello di Montalcino in the "excellent" category.


All references above are taken from Robert Parker's book "The Wine Buyer's Guide.Fourth Edition".


CellarTracker has limited tasting notes on these wines.The only notes I can find for the Castillo di Verrazzano 1990 are:-

"Dark opaque color.Black cherry,mushroom,spicy finish,with medium tannin.Very rich".

and for the Barbi Brunello di Montalcino (Columbini) 1993:-

"Opened and let air for about 45 minutes;initial taste was leathering with some chewiness and tight tannins.After about 30 minutes the wine opened up,softened,and was lovely.I think we opened this at just the right point.The 1993s seem to be drinking right about now and this was a good call.We paired it with Christmas grass fed beef rib roast and it was lovely.I also paired it with a few slices of Vermont cheddar cheese after dinner and it paired very nicely".
