Description

This bottle was bought on site at Vassaltis in Santorini and has been in my Swisscave fridge since. This is a serious Assyrtiko and represents the best of Greek white white.

Vassaltis Vineyards` Gramina is made from a single vineyard of 100% Assyrtiko which is located in the village of Vourvoulos. The grapes are handpicked before dawn and the whole clusters are pressed straight away to preserve fruit freshness, followed by 12 months maturation on the lees for further complexity. The result is an astonishingly elegant wine that exhibits all the unique characteristics of the indigenous Assyrtiko variety. Rich and complex, ripe lemon and other citrus fruits on the nose, together with flint stone, bread, honey, jasmine and toast. On the palate, flavours of salt, citrus, stonefruits. Beautifully balanced by acidity, this is a structured and concentrated wine with a long finish. The perfect match for grilled seafood and roasted white meats.
