Description

With its famous yellow label, this non-vintage Champagne is recognised as Veuve's flagship wine. It is a blend of around 50 cru village and reserve wines from different vintages. Exhibiting fruit, finesse and style, this is a rich, classic Champagne with a yeasty bouquet that truly deserves its status as a Grande Marque.

Founded nearly 250 years ago in 1772, Veuve Clicquot is one of the best recognized and most esteemed Champagnes in the world. The house has always taken a pioneering role in development and promotion of the Champagne product and was a key player in establishing Champagne as the desirable drink it became amongst the upper classes of Europe. Veuve (or “widow”) Clicquot is named after Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin who was the widow of the son of the House’s founder - and proved herself the most adept of business women and Champagne producers.

She took dramatic steps in re-directing the main energies of the company – at the time involved in banking and wool – exclusively to the production of Champagne. She then went on to develop her Champagne as drink of choice in the royal courts throughout Europe and Imperial Russia. Furthermore, she and her cellar master pioneered the technique of remuage – the turning process used to tease the lees into the neck of the bottle - and thus played a significant role in the modernisation of the style to the form we know and love today.

The wine holds a Royal Warrant of Queen Elizabeth II.
