Description

Decadent and rich, with wild mushrooms, plum and hints of citrus fruit. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a long, long finish. Complex, with toasted oak, coffee and ripe fruit. It goes on and on. Wonderful. Big surprise. Get it. One of the best Right Bank wines in 1996.--'95/'96 Bordeaux retrospective. Drink now.

A Civilised, Tolerable Thursday? (Restaurante Cuenllas - Madrid): Feminine. Delicate. Almost breaking on the nose but still giving the best of itsself. Aromas to violets, meaty, ripe, floral. All very delicate and soft but well-defined. Initially, it is more masculine and reserved, but when opens it shows the well-known refinement and a fine kindness that does not leave you until the last drop. Some sediments. It has the potential to age another ten or twenty years. Always my secure comfort within Pomerol.

CdBdx Michelin Chef Wine Dinner 2017 (One-Ninety Restaurant): Tasted blind. Poured from decanter.
Appearance is clear, medium intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of fresh grilled herbs, black cherries, blackberries. With more air, sweet earth, stony minerality, toasty vanilla and milk chocolate. Developed.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (12.5%), smooth soft medium+ tannins, medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of grilled herbs, black cherries, blackberries, sweet earth, some milk chocolate. Very long finish.
Very good quality. Highly complex. Nice soft mouth-feel and now has an elegant medium+ body instead of the usual full-bodied Bordeaux. Was guessing either an aged Left Bank Margaux (but lacks the floral component though) or a Right Bank Pomerol.
Time to drink up. 1996 wasn't great for Right Bankers.
VCC usually has an unusual proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon for a Pomerol.
