Description

1999 was one of the best vintages in Germany since 1976 thanks to a long warm and exceptionally sunny summer. All regions reported very ripe fruit and unusually low acidity.

For centuries the Prüm family has called the village of Wehlen home. The 33.5 acre estate consists of nearly 70% ungrafted vines. Holdings are in the best parts of the top Middle-Mosel sites: Wehlener Sonnenuhr, Zeltinger Sonnenuhr, Graacher Himmelreich, Graacher Domprobst, Bernkasteler Lay, Bernkasteler Badstube, and Bernkasteler Bratenhöfchen. Average annual production is 13,000 cases. The harvest at J.J. Prüm is always extremely late, and the wines are very long-lived.

"Weingut J.J Prüm is without question one of the finest estates in the Mösel" (Berry Brothers & Rudd) and "a leader in the region" (Wine Doctor Chris Kissack)

A pale hue, tinged with green. Rather an intense, mealy nose which is very attractive, with some very obvious pure lime fruit and notes of pickling spice and passion fruit. The palate has some finely delineated acidity and a mealy depth following on from the nose. Through the midpalate it has a full, pervasive, very broad style leading to a flattering, rather seductive finish. Nevertheless, throughout, it remains a little distant, aloof, unassailable. This is very fine, and has great potential. Wonderful. 18+/20 The Wine Doctor

Beautifully displayed elements of slate, peach and citrus blossom mark this German white, all integrated and suspended on a feathery, open texture. No shortage of concentration though, with a lingering finish.
