Description

This blend called Cricket Pitch is an ode to the role that terroir plays in the ancient arts of blending wine and playing the game of cricket. We know that it is the terroir that determines the unique character of the various cultivars that are blended into finest wines of the world. Similarly the terroir of the cricket pitch and facets such as grass growth, moisture and wind determine whether the fielding side uses spin or fast bowling and which shots the batsmen uses in trying to accumulate runs.
As an ode to the role terroir plays both in winemaking and the fine game of cricket, we built the Welbedacht Cricket Oval on our farm and nestled it into the same terroir as the vineyards that produce this amazing blend of Merlot (43%), Cabernet Sauvignon (33%) and Cabernet Franc (24%).
