Description

A rising star of the Margaret River region. The first wines were released in 2000, but by 2006 Woodside Valley Estate had already achieved a 5 star winery rating from James Halliday.

This boutique winery produces a miniscule total production of 1000-1500 cases a year, split between their 4 mono-varietal wines - Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz and Chardonnay.

Not surprisingly, it's difficult to find any online tasting notes for it. The winemakers' own note for this wine reads as follows:
"Well-chosen fine French oak provides a faultless structure and delicious spice and vanilla characters, with the palate clearly driven by a mouth-filling sensuous ball of plush fruit that delivers excellent length. A shiraz of notable generosity and potential."

I've tried the wine recently and it is inky dark and quite brooding, with great depth of fruit but a fair bit of tannin still present. It's very impressive, but still a little young for my palate - I'll be leaving it another couple of years before trying another from my stash.
