Description

1990 Yarra Yering Pinot Noir. Yarra Yering is located in Vicotira's Yarra Valley, just off Maddens Lane in Gruyere. The fruit used to make Yarra Yering Pinot Noir is sourced from Estate grown vines, they are some of the oldest vines in the Yarra Valley. In 1969, after a long search for the perfect site, Dr Bailey Carrodus planted about 12 hectares of vines. The vineyard has a gentle slope and a northerly aspect. The soil is a deep grey silty loam with bands of gravel. Good drainage, exposure to the warm sun and sufficent elevation from the valley floor helps avoid any spring frosts. Yarra Yering Pinot Noir is made in tiny quantities, there isn't much of this wine floating about. Dr Bailey Carrodus' philosophy was to make elegant but classic wines. With the cool climate of the Yarra Valley which is ideal for Pinot Noir, old low yielding vines and no irrigation, Yarra Yering Pinot Noir possess pure fruit character with fine minerality and exceptional longevity.
