Perhaps a Fortieth Birthday or Wedding Anniversary present!

The grape variety make up of Chateau Beau-Sejour Becot is approximately 70% Merlot,15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc.

"In 1979,first impressions were that the St.Emilions were unquestionably better than in 1978,confirmation that this is a Merlot year.
The 1979 Beau-Sejour Becot is spicy and scented, with velvety-textured fruit and easy charm",

David Peppercorn. (Bordeaux Book. Second Edition).

This wine should still be drinking well,as these are the last four tasting notes on Cellartracker for the 1979 Chateau Beau-Sejour Becot, all in the low nineties points ratings and remarkably (in NICEPHORAS's view) even bettering the 1975 Chateau Leoville Las Cases (rated 92+ Points by Robert Parker):-

"Slight haze, garnet color with slight brick rim, and just opaque. The smells are leather, tobacco, dill, dark chocolate, and sour cherry. The tastes are meaty, sour cherry, cedar, and salt and dill. The tannins are slight and satin like while the finish is long with mineral notes".
(91 Points).

HACKEY37. (Cellartracker. 21/5/2016).

"Surprisingly lively - still a lot of fruit and some heft. Blew the 1975 LLC out of the water (and not from a magnum). While unlikely to get any better, still a very good wine. Most did not identify it as right bank - may have had a good share of Cab Franc that particular year".
(93 Points).

NICEPHORAS. (Cellartracker. 21/6/2015).

"My second bottle this year, I think it has gotten even better. Dark fruits, blackberry, fig, tobacco. Lots of complexity, good tannins and acidity. My wife didn't care for it as much as I did though".
(93 Points).

NEURONSTAR. (Cellartracker. 12/10/2014).

"Perfect condition. No decant. Resolved and mellow but still bright-eyed and eager. Balanced from bouquet to quietly-crackling dissipation. Sediment caked into a corner of the punt. Lovely with chicken tikka masala".
(92 Points).

ROLLERBALL. (Cellartracker. 4/9/2014).
