Lot size: 1 bottle of 750 ml each Wine type: White, 2000 vintage
Tax status: Duty PaidQuestion Mark Origin: Pessac-Léognan, Bordeaux, France
Fill level: Into Neck (IN)Question Mark Grape variety: Semillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend

A bottle of Pessac-Léognan white from the excellent 2000 vintage.

Don't let anyone persuade you that all Bordeaux white should be drunk young! This is arrant nonsense and the great whites of Pessac-Léognan are reputed to age almost eternally - they are made to do so!
One of my war stories: I recall drinking one of these in the mid '80s at the chateau with the then owner Monsieur Ricard (a great pianist by the way). It was a 1955 and drinking marvellously at 30 years old.

This bottle has a complete label, a dated capsule and a level into the neck.

95 points Wine Spectator: "This is a blockbuster. It's full of super- ripe apple, lemon and fresh peach character. Yet very reserved. Full-bodied, with super structure and a long, long finish. Like grand cru Burgundy. Fantastic. Best after 2006. 1,500 cases made." (07/03)

90 points Robert Parker: "One of the best dry whites of the vintage, the 2000 offers up notes of lanolin, citrus, grapefruit, smoke, and minerals with notions of toasty wood in the background. This medium to full-bodied, deep, concentrated, pure, intense effort is a success for the vintage. It should hit its peak in 5-6 years and last for two decades." (04/03)
