Lot size: 1 bottle of 750 ml each Wine type: Red, 2000 vintage
Tax status: Duty PaidQuestion Mark Origin: Chateauneuf du Pape, Rhône, France
Fill level: Into Neck (IN)Question Mark Grape variety:

Clos des Papes was one of the first estates in Chateauneuf du Pape, as well as in all of the Rhone Valley to produce, bottle and sell their own wine. Their first wine bearing the Clos des Papes label was released in 1896! The current owner and director is Paul Vincent Avril, who was born in 1965. He started to work at Clos des Papes in 1988. Paul Avril trained at several other wineries before joining the family business at Clos des Papes. Paul Vincent Avril even had a stint at Chateau Mouton Rothschild in Bordeaux where he learned more about winemaking and the trade.

It could be said that Paul Avril is a modern traditionalist. On the one hand, he destems the grapes, seeks low yields and does not filter. On the other hand, Paul Vincent Avril eschews new oak and would not consider producing a high end cuvee.

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The Burgundian-styled 2000 Chateauneuf du Pape is drinking at point today. Possessing beautiful notes of forest floor, truffles, spice, garrigue and sweet cherry and kirsch like fruit, this beauty has notable freshness and purity, medium to full-bodied richness, fine tannin and a layered, integrated texture that keeps you coming back to the glass. There's no need to delay gratification here and I'd enjoy bottles over the coming 4-5 years. (JD) (9/2015)

95 points Jeb Dunnuck

Drinking beautifully, the 2000 Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape just oozes kirsch and licorice aromas on the nose. With air, meat, garrigue, and spice come through and I think this is smack dab in the middle of its drinking window. Beautifully textured, elegant and balanced, I would start opening bottles and wouldn’t be surprised to see this continue to drink well through 2020 or longer. (8/2010)
