This Auction is for 3 bottles of Carruades de Lafite 1999
and 3 bottles of Carruades de Lafite 1998 6 bottles in total.

The transformation of Carruades de Lafite from excellent second wine to first growth icon in its own right has been a recent one and one where its popularity in eastern markets has had a life of its own. It is fair to say though, that the quality of Carruades is such that it is superior to the vast majority of vintages of Lafite pre-1990. With a higher percentage of Merlot (around 45%) the wine is certainly most attractive when young and can last well into its second decade

Carruades de lafite 1998

Score: 90

Robert Parker, Bordeaux Book (4), December 2003

This has become one of the finest second wines produced. The 1998 (a blend of 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, 4.5% Cabernet Franc, and 1.5% Petit Verdot) is an outstanding effort. While very Lafite-like (although more supple and forward), it exhibits a dense ruby/purple color in addition to an excellent bouquet of black fruits, smoke, earth, and minerals, supple tannin, an excellent texture, and a long, fine finish. Anticipated maturity: now-2015.90 points Drink 2001-2015

Score: 90-91 Robert Parker, Wine Advocate (128), April 2000

My pick of the second wines this year, Carruades is remarkably deep in colour, with roast blackcurrant scents and more intense ripe, pure, long-flavoured blackcurrants in the mouth.

Carruades de lafite 1999

Score: 89-91 Robert Parker, Wine Advocate (134), April 2001

Score: 89-90 Robert Parker, Wine Advocate (128), April 2000

1999 A beauty. Aromas of tobacco, cherry and chocolate. Medium body. Medium fine tannins. Very long, and for a second wine very, very good

Score: 88-90 James Suckling, Wine Spectator
