Description

Two very good bottles from the excellent '88 vintage.
Both have good complete labels and embossed capsules.
Levels: One 'In Neck' and the other at 'Base of Neck'

Robert Parker: "The 1988 Poujeaux is a beautiful wine, superior, in my opinion, to both the 1989 and 1990. The oaky, classic, curranty bouquet exhibits both intensity and ripeness. The wine offers plenty of toasty new oak, medium body, good acidity, excellent depth and definition, and firm tannins in the finish

A real treat. Mature, amazing to see how delicious the 88s are lately

5/22/2018 - NUTTY08 WROTE:
This was a really nice experience. It recovered from a crumbling cork. The aromatics are where this is as, and they were soaring. Fine slightly green herbs, eucalyptus, leather. Fruit is all tertiary, with mushroom and leather character. Palate shows plenty of acidity, but has lost the flesh of young. Strong finish. Shows above its pedigree, but still a wine on slow decline.
For lovers of old claret.

2/6/2018 - MAAIKE2 WROTE: 90 Points
Only slight signs of aging in the colour. Perfect earthy nose. Earth and leather in the mouth, followed by long continuation on the palate. However, the wine is thinning. Really great after 30 years, confirming its great status as cru bourgeois.
