Description

THREE lots of TWO bottles of this fine '98 Moulis.

Until fairly recently under the ownership of the Thiel family this 50 hectare estate is planted with45% Cabernet-Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 10% Petit Verdot.

Poujeaux is reputed the world over for its elegant and intense wines. All is made in the pure tradition...

UK WineSearcher price per bottle is £49.50 plus 20% VAT.

According to Robert Parker: "The 1998's dark ruby/purple colour is accompanied by a sweet nose of cranberries, blackberries, minerals, and toasty oak. The wine is medium to full-bodied, with excellent texture, fine depth, and sweet tannin in the finish. As always, it is a wine of class and length. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2016." (04/01) According to the Wine Spectator: "Pretty plum and berry character on the nose. Medium-bodied, with silky tannins and a medium finish. Delicious. Best after 2005." (01/01)

Gary Westby Review Date: 1/4/2018
Poujeaux needs twenty years to drink the way that I like it, and this is in a perfect spot, not showing any sort of fragility. We tasted this blind, and I was over the moon for the quality and finesse of this now mature claret. If you are looking for something special for your next steak dinner, this Moulis has the excellent texture, dark fruit and perky finish that will complement your meal perfectly.

Good cork. Bright colour. All in order for a good quality Medoc with subtle structure and evolved secondary flavours. Not huge but nicely in balance ..ultimately lacking in some length. Better than my last bottle. Enjoyable for a mid week wine with dinner.

10/7/2018 - EUDEMIS LIKES THIS WINE:
12.5% alcohol. Very good cork of slightly above average length; no wine penetration at all, which is remarkable after 20 years. Decanted an hour ahead.
Medium deep colour with some fading at the rim. Superb mature nose with a fair amount of dark berries underpinned by well-judged oak. The mouth is equally good, with good balance and refreshing acidity in the finish, which has very good length.
Not a monster of concentration, but a highly civilised harmonious Médoc; everything is in place, with no element calling attention to itself. Not a bit tired either. I am coming to the end of my stash of Poujeaux in this particular vintage, and all bottles have been very enjoyable over the last ten years. Proof positive that one can drink very well for a modest outlay, provided that one is willing to be patient and selective.
