Description

1952 Pol Roger & Co Extra Cuvée de Réserve Extra Dry Champagne.

This was a special reserve of the 1952 vintage for Queen Elizabeth's Silver Jubilee. The wine will have been disgorged in 1976 ready for the celebrations the following year.

Labels on the bottle read:
(around the neck): "Pol Roger, for Great Britain" - "Pol Roger & Co Extra Dry, Épernay, France, 1952".

The two main labels:-

"Reserve speciale a l'occasion du jubile d'argent de s.m. la reine Elisabeth II"

"CHAMPAGNE, Extra Cuvée de Réserve (by appointment - purveyors of champagne to the late King George VI) Pol Roger & Co, Epernay,
Extra Dry 1952, Reserved for Great Britain"

A tasting note plundered from the internet:
"Despite frequent rain through the growing season, the 1952 vintage was harvested early. For Tom Stevenson, "this was the best champagne [in 1986] that I had ever tasted. Twelve years later, it remains in my top ten." Showings of this vintage in the 1990s revealed that it maintained a surprisingly youthful colour and a gentle, persistent mousse: on the palate it was firm and crisp, with a pleasing nuttiness and long, positive finish."
