For auction: one bottle of 1929 Chateau Rouget Grand Cru Pomerol
This bottle is being sold in excellent condition considering it is 80 years old. The label is just perfect and the capsule shows marks commensurate with age, but is still very much intact. There is slight cork expansion, but the level is at the base of the neck - implying excellent storage thoughout its life. The bottle itself is spotless - and sports a very high kick-up, which is normal for Bordeaux bottles of this age. Please see the pictures for evidence of this.
I have owned this bottle for a number of years and during that time it has been kept at a temperature and humidity-controlled 14 degrees. Prior to that it was owned by my grandmother, although for how long I am not sure. It is certainly fair to say though, that going by the condition, it has been well looked after. The level of the wine certainly implies that it may well still be drinkable. 1929 was a superb vintage after all.
