Two bottles from the legendary Domaine Pierre Gonon in the Northern Rhone. 100% Syrah.nn1 x 2017 Saint-Joseph Rougen1 x 2018 Saint-Joseph RougennThe Pierre Gonon estate, located in Mauves in Ardèche, is a family farm of 10 hectares in AOC Saint-Joseph. The Gonon brothers represent the 4th generation and have become an essential reference in Saint-Joseph. On these difficult soils, they apply themselves to an uncompromising management of the vine: plowing with a winch, work by hand, compost, abandonment of pesticides and insecticides. The estate prefers freshness to overripe grapes, and there is very little wine available at the property… so dazzling is the aura of the Gonon estate. Organic certification was obtained in 2011.nn96 Points (Decanter): Incredibly open and vibrant aromatics of black olive tapenade, bay leaf and rosemary. Mouth-filling but without excessive weight, this is juicy and fresh. Finishing dry, this is a wine that’s entirely satisfying, delicious and sweetly fruited, with good acidity and length. Simply a brilliant wine, no matter how you measure it. (MW)
