The de Malliac family settled in Gascony in the 12th century and are one of the most famous in the region. Their Château is in Montréal, the first fortified new town in Gascony, and parts of it date from the Middle Ages. Supplying Bas Armagnacs, the firm pioneered the term 'Hors d'Age' and more recently, was the first to provide buyers with the date of bottling as well as distillation.
