Description

One of the leading cru bourgeoisie properties in St-Julien. It was built up by the Kaelin family in the first half of the 20th century and its vineyards are made up of plots that were previously part of Château St-Pierre, and Château Lagrange. They now total 42 hectares, which along with Château Gloria make it the largest holding in St-Julien outside of the classed growths.
The wine is typically a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Franc. The grapes are fermented in a variety of temperature controlled vats and the wine is then matured in oak barriques (20% new) for 15-18 months. It is bottled unfiltered.

Tasted by Javachip on 10/12/2011 & rated 86 points: Bottle in mint condition, mid-neck fill. Opened at 5:15 PM, decanted at 5:45, re-bottled at 6:00; tasting began at 7:30 PM. Maybe a little too much air exposure. Didn't get the sweet red berries I got last time. Notes of meat, tobacco, plums, tomatoes, cedar. Smooth, mellow, medium-bodied, medium finish. Very nice but not as good as previous bottle.

I would be more than hopeful given the condition of the bottle that this example will show even better!
