Description

I am selling one bottle of the Burgundy grand cru, Richebourg from Domaine Jean Grivot from the great 1998 vintage. I couldn t find it available anywhere on-line in the UK and the cheapest comparable vintage is well in excess of £1k/bottle, so grab yourself a bargain. Stored in a temperature, humidity and vibration controlled fridge since purchase at optimal conditions.

Awarded 19.5 (our of 20) by the leading authority on Burgundy, Clive Coates MW in The Wines of Burgundy gave this tasting note:

"Very good colour. Splendid nose. Great concentration. Lots of depth. Aristocratic and backward, full, rich and quite tannic. Still quite closed. Very good grip. Very classy fruit. A splendid example. Austere but fine. Marvellous finish." (September 2002) Drinking window: 2009 to 2025+

Coates wrote this about the Richebourg vineyard itself (one of only a handful of 3 star vineyards):

"Richebourg is indisputably the best of the non-monopoly grand crus of Vosne. It is fuller, fatter, richer, more intense and generous, but more masculine and long-lasting than Romanee-Saint-Vivant. At its best, it can offer an explosion of flavours: coffee and chocolate when young, violets when mature, all within a velvet-textured cornucopia of small black and red fruits. I count some Richebourgs among the greatest Burgundies I have ever tasted".

And described Domaine Jean Grivot (also one of only a handful of 3 star domaines) as "one of the great domaines of Burgundy".

All in all a rather good package, and a great addition to the Christmas table.
