Description

1x bottle of sweet Vin Doux Naturel, in perfect condition. The historic French alternative to Port!

Banyuls is located a stone's throw away from the Spanish border, a French Appelation d'Origine Contrôlée in the southern corner of the Roussillon region. The estate handles 30 hectares of mountain vineyards spread over 30 small parcels, covering different exposures, altitudes, grape varieties, soils and proximity to the sea, all producing a number of 'microterroirs' from which grapes are sourced.

Domaine de la Rectorie is owned by Marc Parcé, the wine named after his grandfather. Previously, grapes were taken to the local cooperative - which today handles 70% of the region's grapes - but in 1984 it was decided that production was taken back into family hands, to resume the practice of their great-grandparents whom they inherited the estate off.

The wine is a mix of old Grenache and Carignan.

Grapes are macerated whole-bunched for a few days. Fermentation is stopped due to the addition of neutral alcohol to the must, before maceration is allowed to continue for 2 to 3 weeks, allowing the alcohol to extract the flavour of the grape. Aged in wood for one year.

'The Parcés' Banyuls Cuvée Léon Parcé - which spends around a year in small barrels - is gorgeously-scented with confitured and distilled black raspberry, maraschino, marzipan, mint, and rosemary. The pungent impingement of resinous herbs persists on the palate, lending a sense of invigoration and counterpoint to what is otherwise a seamlessly sweet, unctuous performance, and notes of bitter chocolate and brown spices add further fascination to the long, soothing yet stimulating finish of a seductive treat that should not wear out its welcome over the next several years."
