A potentially rare bottle of 1962 Port from Dow, you will see from the note below that Dow registered their 1962 but never declared. I do not recall seeing the term 'Reserve' before on the label. This is, from the information stated on the label, probably either a LBV or a Tawny style, but given that initially the year was going to be declared this could be a very interesting wine.
It is from the 1962 vintage, matured in wood before being bottled in 1972 - safe to assume the decade was spent in wood.
Not surprisingly I have not been able to find any tasting notes for this wine though I have found the following note from Chrisite's - the Dows 1962 is a very rare Vintage Port. The bottles were registered at the institute but never declared. Deeper orange red compared to the 1960. Fine nose of peppery sweet fruit with some balsamic tones, honey cake, beef soup and Indian spices. The fine elegant start of taste is smooth, refined and mouth filling. A well balanced vintage port with medium length. All there in a more approachable style. A very nice vintage port which was just bound to be forgotten once the strong classic 1963’s were ageing in the cellar. Last tasted July 2017. (Christies Tasting Note)
Removed from an Essex Cellar where it had lain unmoved since purchase, bottle has been partly cleaned to assist images and to check condition.
