Krohn are a small family-owned Port house run by brother and sister Jose and Iolanda Carneiro. Long renowned for the quality of their sublime Colheitas (single vintage tawnies), they produce a remarkably complete range for a small house and each wine excels in its category. The Quinta do Retiro Novo estate in Sarzedinho, in the Rio Torto valley, is all A grade vineyard. Vinification takes place here, with some of the top wines still being trodden by foot. All the wines are matured in cellars at Villa Nova de Gaia.

Wiese & Krohn is one of those shippers that has an extensive collection of old colheita (wood aged) tawnies. This is an old gold-colored wine, unctuous in its texture. While there are definite wood aromas, the fruit is all rich syrup, with just the right amount of acidity. 92/100 points Wine Enthusiast (12/2011)
Very dry hot weather gave origin to a small production of very ripe, sweet fruit which became a wine both sweet and very high in tannin. Krohn's Colheita 1961 has won several prizes, among them two silver medals (International Wine Challenge 2003 and Decanter World Wine Awards 2006).K&L Notes
