Description

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: 92 points

A marvellously intense and individual dessert wine with a deep black colour, opulent and rich palate with flavours of liquorice and figs but has bite and balance. Toro Albalá are the finest exponents of barrel-aged pure PX.

The Montilla-Moriles region in spain where this wine comes from is known for its rich dessert wines, which are categorized via the same classification system as that used for Sherry in Jerez. The wines produced in Montilla-Moriles, however, are generally not fortified (with some exceptions, such as Oloroso), as the Pedro Ximenez grapes achieve extraordinary ripeness in this hot and dry climate – a mix of Mediterranean and semi-continental.

Please note: this wine is not fortified, however for the purpose of the bid for wine website format, I had to put 'fortified' in the initial description as there was no 'dessert wine' option.
