Dark red robe with a thorough black centre. The nose is engaging, on blackberry, offers fresh and neatly ripe fruit, a touch of flowers and smoke the underlay. The palate expresses the rock-powder of its place; the fruit has backing, I note, more than many zero SO2 wines. There’s a note of black olives, prune on the close. It’s interesting to make this in a warm, challenging year – the result is more body beyond and around the fruit, which pleases, releases carefully. “It will live five to 10 years,” Franck Balthazar. 13.5°. 1,600 b. This was bottled one week ago. Drink to 2025-26 (Dec 2018)
