Description

Score: 100 Robert Parker, Bordeaux Book (4), December 2003

Jancis Robinson
Dark crimson with an aged rim. Polished, sweet, fully ripe, seductive fruit – wonderful. And it has retained freshness and vivacity too. Perfectly balanced. A long-lived marvel. 20/20 points (JR) (7/2013)

100 points Vinous
The 1959 Haut-Brion is, in my view, the most moving of the utterly profound wines on the table. Ripe and flamboyant, the 1959 races across the palate with kirsch, mint, licorice and tobacco, all in an unctuous, flashy style that captivates all the senses. Etc.
100 points John Gilman
The 1959 vintage of Haut-Brion was the first legendary bottle of claret that I ever had the pleasure to taste in my career in the wine trade, and I have had the good fortune to taste it with some frequency over the last twenty years. Etc.

STILL YOUNG

You won’t believe this, a 58 year old bottle and I was still screaming that it was young! To rub it in, this bottle was from a 375ml half sized bottle which was supposed to age faster. Also, serving next to the legendary 89 doesn’t help as both are extremely youthful.
