Jean Leon Zemis 2000 Limited 2,969 Bottles. Numbered Bottles: 1030,1021,0430. More than 40 years ago, the legendary Jean Leon planted the first vineyards of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot de Catalunya. His intention was to create a wine that would excite his clients (Frank Sinatra, Marilyn Monroe, President Kennedy or James Dean) at La Scala restaurant in Los Angeles. He achieved it with varietal wines, but not with a coupage, because the Merlot was not planted in the right land. Zemis responds to the initial idea. Made only in specific vintages (2000-2003), this 60% Cabernet Sauvignon 30% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc wine has a powerful cherry colour, plus an aroma in which notes of liquorice give it personality. The tannins are present, but they are not aggressive and their passage through the mouth is complex and pleasant. The winemaker Jaume Rovira has managed to carry out the initial project.
