1961 Wiese & Krohn Colheita Port
A lovely bottle of this 62 year old vintage port, in its own original box, and in super condition with a fine label, capsule, and a level well into the neck.
Krohn are a small family-owned Port house run by brother and sister Jose and Iolanda Carneiro. Long renowned for the quality of their sublime Colheitas (single vintage tawnies), they produce a remarkably complete range for a small house and each wine excels in its category. The Quinta do Retiro Novo estate in Sarzedinho, in the Rio Torto valley, is all A grade vineyard. Vinification takes place here, with some of the top wines still being trodden by foot. All the wines are matured in cellars at Villa Nova de Gaia.

Wiese & Krohn is one of those shippers that has an extensive collection of old colheita (wood aged) tawnies. This is an old gold-colored wine, unctuous in its texture. While there are definite wood aromas, the fruit is all rich syrup, with just the right amount of acidity. (RV) (12/2011)
