Description

Clearing out space in the cellar and can offer 3 bottles of Marcarini's 2010 Barolo La Serra. It really is drinking beautifully now and has plenty of miles left to run. I have a few other lots of Italian & French reds in their prime and happy to combine postage on any lots bought together.

Marcarini's terrace in La Morra occupies a prime location with the winery built just below the medieval watchtower. Podere Marcarini is one of Barolo's leading names. Owner Manuel Marchetti implements long fermentations, macerations, and ageing in large ancient botti. Marcarini’s wines remains traditional, but with a zip of energy.

Pale pinky red, this is very much Manuel’s ‘dainty’, scented Barolo from the triangular plot of La Serra, high up on the La Morra escarpment, and it is characterised by wafts of indian spice, tobacco and rose-red berried fruit. A little shy and retiring when young, there’s a hint, a glint of pretty red at its core, plus classic notes of liquorice (Berry Bros).

The 2010 Barolo La Serra shows some ripeness with obvious tones of raspberry and a touch of dried strawberry. Beyond the fruit tones are multiple levels of exotic spice and licorice with tarry notes of road pavement and crushed stone at the back. The finish is evolved, dark and powerful. Drink: 2016-2026. Monica Lerner WA92.

A perfume of raspberry and rose petal bursts from the glass. The purity redcurrant & cherry fruit is supported by the minerality and silky texture. Marcarini's 2010 Barolo La Serra is laced with freshly cut flowers, mint, crushed rocks and red fruit. High-toned floral and spice notes abound in a bright, chiselled Barolo built for the cellar. The vivid, crystalline finish is particularly of note. Drink 2018-2031. Antonio Galloni (91-93)
