There's a lot going on in this sub-$30 Shiraz. Give it plenty of air in glass or decanter to reveal rich, appealing aromas of blueberry crumble and mocha, followed by woodsier notes like bay leaf, wild violet and tree sap. Luscious fruit on the palate is met with an iron fist of powerful, drying tannins. But there's still charm and varietal character here in the thickets. This wine might benefit from another year or two in bottle. (Christina Pickard)
