Description

Perrier Jouet Belle Epoque Rosé 2005 Champagne Vik Muniz Edition is a tribute to master glasss maker Emile Gallé who in 1902 sketched a spray of white Japanese anemones for the Perrier Jouet bottle. In 2014 they provided inspriation for a work of art by Brazilian artist Vik Muniz. His portrayal of a golden hummingbird held captivated by a single exquisite anemone reinterprets the original design, lending it his own poetic slant. Chance encounters like these are rare, much like the cuveé Belle Epoque Rosé. The scene reflects the freshness, delicacy and elegance of this limited edition wine. Vik Muniz conceived the fairy-tale encounter of a dazzling golden hummingbird with the iconic Perrier-Jouët anemone. When the bright-gold burst Brazilian bird hovered momentarily over a bed of flowers in his ceaseless quest for nectar, he spied the latter’s pristine white petals, marvelled at her delicate beauty the latter’s white petals turning gently pink in pleasure at such gallant scrutiny.

Chardonnay with the richness of the Pinot Noirs (50%) from Mailly, Aÿ, Verzy and Rilly and the rounded aromas of red fruits from the Pinot Meuniers from Dizy (5%). Finally, Pinot Noir red wines (11%) from Vertus and Vincelles give the wine its subtle and pure rosé hue.

The colour is a robe of pure salmon pink, and the wine reveals complex yet elegant fruity aromas of strawberries, citrus fruits, sour cherry and orange with hints of cream and spice. Generous and voluptuous. The attack is fresh, awakening the senses with hints of orange confit, white peach and cocoa, leading to a rich, rounded finish. Dosage: 8g/l - Matured for at least six years in the House cellars.

GRAPE
Chardonnay
Pinot Meunier
Pinot Noir
Grape Blend:
With grapes sourced from the best terroirs of the House in Cramant, Avize and Le Mesnil, the Chardonnays (45%) bring elegance and floral freshness to the blend. Generous and rounded, the 2005 vintage combines the elegance of the Chardonnay with the richness of the Pinot Noirs (50%) from Mailly, Aÿ, Verzy and Rilly and the rounded aromas of red fruits from the Pinot Meuniers from Dizy (5%). Finally, Pinot Noir red wines (11%) from Vertus and Vincelles give the wine its subtle and pure rosé hue. Dosage: 8g/l - Matured for at least six years in the House cellars. The 2005 harvest was characterized by a very cold winter, followed by spring frosts. Luckily the warmer weather from mid June to mid July enabled the vines to flower and set successfully, particularly the Pinot Noirs and Pinot Meunier. August was cool and fairly damp, bringing the fear of rot, but a spectacular Indian summer from mid September provided the perfect combination of sun, drying winds and cool nights to ripen the grapes successfully. The initial musts showed lower than average acidity levels, but excellent ripeness, particularly amongst the Chardonnays.

FOODPAIRINGS
Belle Epoque rosé 2005 can be served between 10° and 12°C, either as an aperitif or with food. It matches beautifully with flavours ranging Lobster and langoustines to Magret duck, milk-fed lamb or game. Alternatively with dessert, the complex aromas and flavours work beautifully with sweet red fruit flavours.

ABOUT VIK MUNIZ
Vik Muniz is a worldwide recognised “craftsman-conjurer” with a hands-on approach who works in natural materials ranging from diamonds to dust. A visual artist and self-described “low-tech illusionist”, Muniz has created images, in a wide range of materials from chocolate and sugar to junk and toys, recording them with a camera. Over the last 15 years, Vik Muniz’s extensive portfolio has featured in one-man exhibitions at leading galleries worldwide such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Madrid’s Centro de Arte Reina Sofia and the Brazilian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale in Italy.

For the bottle, Muniz conceived a fairly-tale encounter of the golden hummingbird that has been synonymous with the Belle Epoque bottle for more than a century. The aim was to create the illusion of the hummingbird flying towards the foreground anemones. The use of clear glass allows the beautiful salmon shade of the wine to shine through.

“Much as Perrier-Jouët has long embraced Art Nouveau’s love of nature and enchantment, I took the idea of captivation in a natural setting as the inspiration for this motif,” explained Vik Muniz.

According to Perrier-Jouët, the 2005 vintage was specially selected by its cellar master Hervé Deschamps for this collaboration. He has described it as “the most extravagant wine of the Belle Epoque Collection”. Tasters can expect to experience a generous voluptuous Champagne with notes of candied orange, white peach and cocoa.

Only 5000 of this was released worldwide and only 200 of that for the UK release. You won't find this champagne for sale within the UK anywhere, anymore. Grab a unique piece of art and exquisite champagne.
