Description

On a trip to Tuscany in 2017 this was personally ‘tipped’ by Fabio Ceccarelli shortly after harvest and what Fabio does not know about Tuscan wines is not worth knowing. A super Tuscan, 38 months in the large oak barrels and imported by me straight into my climate- controlled cellar. I managed to resist trying until the start of its expected drinking window.

It is every bit as good as imagined, right up there with the other 100% Sangiovese commonly designated a ‘Super Tuscan’, Fontodi Flaccianello. 93 from Decanter and James Sucking, but in my opinion well worth the 96 it scored from Wine Spectator. Fruit, especially cherry, initially with herb, graphite and tobacco adding depth.

Tip: It benefits from decanting. We had it when a friend visited bearing gifts of Iberico ham and Manchego cheese and it was all lovely. Selling 3 bottles, keeping the rest, it’s got lots and lots of life left and I think will benefit from even longer in the bottle if you can resist.
