Description

Here's two bottles that are conversation stoppers. Found in an old subterranean cellar in Somerset...strange things can be found in Somerset I assure you, and none less than these remnants of a bygone era.

Marketed long before the beloved Common Market (or whatever they are called this week) stamped on our Empire kin creating and competing with wines using Continental (mainly French) denominations...ah, those were the days, - Spanish Champagne anyone?

The first is:
"Unto Her Majesty" Here's a Health 1953 (Coronation bottling)
'This flagon contains the equivalent of a bottle and a half of Imperial Australian Burgundy produced from Emu Vineyards at Morphett Vale, South Australia and shipped, bottled, and guaranteed by Emu Wine C° Ltd London E3'
First Prize Winner Export Burgundy Australian Wine Championships, Adelaide 1952.

Bottle as per photos. Some capsule damage.

The second bottle is more intriguing.
Same volume as above but labelled :

"Burgogne's Harvest Brurgundy"
"A generous wine of absolute purity from AUSTRALIA AND SOUTH AFRICA"

Burgogne's C° Ltd London E14 'Empire Wine Growers'

Make of all that what you will, but this pair remain in good order and perhaps might make bizarre presents inthis moment of goodwill?
