Description

From the legendary 1959 vintage, here we have one of five bottles of top class red Burgundy. Capsule and level absolutely first class here, but the label is in a bit of a sorry state to say the least. What is clear however is that this is a 59 and that it is a Grand cru, at least according to Jadot. Some research tells me that Les Coucheraux is actually a Premier Cru Vineyard -

"The Aux Coucherias vineyard lies on the upper reaches of Beaune's premier cru slope, equidistant from Pommard and Savigny, and occupies 24 acres. Louis Henry Denis Jadot purchased 4.94-acres in the Clos des Couchereaux in 1836, and this holding has remained in the Jadot family ever since. The superb, east-southeast exposition of the vineyard results in a wine of particular fruit ripeness and supple full body. Its delicately fragrant Pinot Noir bouquet, marked by characteristically earthy notes, is followed on the palate by a generous, velvety texture and lengthy finish."

So why Grand Cru is printed on the label is somewhat of a mystery. Either way this is a superb bottle with impeccable provenance.

Please see my other auctions for some more seriously good wines from Italy, Burgundy and Bordeaux and a few more besides. You are welcome to pay by paypal and this is the easiest and cheapest method of payment for overseas buyers, their modest handling charges will be added to your invoice.

I will consolidate multiple purchases for shipping, please let me know if you are bidding on more than one bottle and I will wait for all the auctions to finish before sending your invoices.
