Description

Chateau Lafite Rothschild is known for producing what some tasters think is the best Bordeaux wine in the appellation. It’s also thought of as one of the most famous, as well as expensive wines in the world. Lafite Rothschild has a long and interesting history dating back to 1234! Even though the property was not in the Bordeaux wine business at that time. It is thought that vines were already planted on their unique terroir. The owner of the estate at the time, Gombaud de Lafite left his mark. Almost 1,000 years after he owned it, the chateau is still named after him! As mentioned, while vines were probably in existence at Lafite, it was not until around 1680, that the majority of the vineyards of what we know of as Lafite Rothschild today were created.

1960 Bordeaux wine was said to be a nice, early drinking, light, vintage in its day. The vintage was destroyed by non stop rain during August and September. The cold summer months did not help the quality either. 1960 Bordeaux wine is the product of an early harvest. All the chateaux were picking by September 15. Being stuck in the middle between two of the greatest vintages from the 20th century, (1959 and 1961) insured there would never be any interest in the 1960 Bordeaux vintage.
