Description

FOR SALE: 4 BOTTLES (4 lots of one bottle) 1964 CHATEAU LATOUR 1er GRAND CRU CLASSE PAUILLAC

These bottles have been carefully collected by myself over the last few years and are being sold to make way for more wine. It is being sold in excellent condition for its age, with all bottles and labels all pretty much excellent. Corks are reassuringly firm too. Capsules are all intact with just one or two displying a small nick or two or the very start of some corrosion, commensurate with damp cellar handling and storage. Certainly nothing that should not be expected for 45 year old bottles. The levels are all pretty consistently at the top of the shoulder for each bottle. I hope the pictures show these clearly.

The 1964 Latour is a triumph of excellent judgement by the chateau. In a fairly good, bumper vintage, nearly all producers waited until later in the autumm to begin their harvest. Unfortunately crops were then hit with two weeks of almost continual rain, which had a huge impact on the level and quality of the harvested crops. Chateau Latour however, havested early thus missing the rains and made a magnificently concentrated and beefy wine with lots of ageing potential. Those that harvested later (Lafite and Mouton for example), made thinner, leaner wines that had the piquancy of a lighter vintage. Latour is widely considered to be THE wine of the 1964 Medoc vintage.

Ratings and scores as follows:

Parker: 90/100
Jancis Robinson 18.5/20
JM Quarin: 97/100
Cellartracker: 93/100

The current value of a bottle of 1964 Latour is £325-£425 (+vat/duty). The reserve and buy it now price is a reflection on the condition and profile of this wine, and taking market values into account, is very fair indeed - especially when you take into account the fact that my prices are inclusive of vat.

The bottles will be sent very well packaged on receipt of cleared payment. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions. Please also see my other bottles for sale. Lastly, please by all means see my feedback attained whilst I have traded on BfW. It is very important to me that everything I sell is very accurately described and received by the buyer in the condition it is auctioned by me. My feedback score and commentary is I believe, testament to this.
