Description

Bottle in good order.
Label 97% complete - just a couple of nibbles over the years - and the level is quite acceptable for a 54 year old...Very High Shoulder.

A couple of reviews from well known critics:-

Tasted at the Las-Cases off-line at The Square. The last time I had the '64 was in Bordeaux on the evening that Michel Delon passed away. Some 11 years later and from magnum, this example is better. It has a light but lifted minty nose, giving a nod to Pauillac over the border. Hints of black olive tapenade and autumn leaves and leather emerge with time. The palate is medium-bodied with melted tannins, smooth in texture and not a complex Saint Julien. Yet its remains lively in the glass and finishes with an attractive, leafy finish that maintains admirable definition. Tasted February 2011.
Score: 89 Neal Martin, RobertParker.com, July 2013

Wine Spectator
Soft and supple, not as generous as one might expect from a highly regarded vintage for Las Cases, but showing nice cigar-box, cedar and truffle overtones to the modest currant and berry flavours.--Léoville Las Cases vertical. (2/1992)

Two tasting notes on CellarTracker:-

"The bottle I drank in 1989 was a magnum. This one was just an 0.75 bottle. Classical mature Bordeaux bouquet with still some cassis and red fruits in the bouquet. A little bit of sweetness, but also old age acidity. Beautiful earthy/autumn forest impressions. The extraordinary experience is that in the glass the wine slowly fades away, but 6 hours later, the leftover in the bottle was very much alive. The wine is a living and interesting product".
(92 Points). ANONYMOUS. (CellarTracker. 1/1/2013.

"Medium red, orange brick on the rim. Elegant and classic on the nose. Chocolate, cherries, black olives, iron, pencil shavings, and some tar. Cabernet tones, with wide range of (wet) forest layers. Powerful palate with little berries and chocolate. The next day nothing less, needs to be opened a few hours before serving. Mature, classic Bordeaux at its best, drinks wonderful. Recommended, wish I had more of this".
