"Healthy,vibrant,translucent crimson.Compote of mature cherry-led fruits,but with an underlying plummy tone,cedar and herbs,with a hint of pipe tobacco.Cool fruited,laconic,lingering fruity-plummy,earthy and herby notes on the medium-bodied palate; beautifully resolved,refined and elegant,with no signs of drying.Glorious old style claret with under-stated reticence and class.This will not repay further cellaring,but should hang on to celebrate its 50th Birthday in fine fettle".

"In contrast to the tired 1970 Leoville Las Cases,this bottle was in smashing great shape.Very lithe and elegant,with a delicious core of tart red berries,surrounded by just the right amount of secondary characteristics.The palate shows what it ought to show,with a nice amount of fresh acidity built in - this wine (or at least,this bottle) is as spry as it can be at its age.Delicious and a true archetype".
