Description

"Several notes.Decidedly better than the Leoville Barton 1970 - richer, fuller, good fruit, length and extract managing almost to mask itstannin. Most recently, fragrant and drinking well"****. Last tasted,October 1997.

Michael Broadbent. (Vintage Wine).

"Deep garnet, concentrated cedar and tar nose, with hints of volatile acidity;very concentrated, with chewy cassis and cedar flavors, short of its peak.Promising".
(89 Points).

James Suckling. (The Wine Spectator. May 1993).

The last tasting note on CellarTracker on the 1970 Leoville Las Cases:-

"Classic St.Julien,cedar,graphite.Good intensity and nuanced flavors.High acidity".
(91 Points).

CellarTracker. (4/7/2016).

And another recent tasting note:-

"Good condition bottle bought at auction from a recently opened case.Cork needed the butler's friend. With sandy browning but lively and clear. Not much nose at first, later blackcurrant. Palate: bell pepper, liquorice, blood, cedar.Soft and savoury with good amount of fruit.Good length.Overall,a lovely balanced old claret.Hard to compare to a young wine.Could've/should've bought another bottle".
(92 Points).

CellarTracker. (27/8/2015).

Please note that there is likely to be bottle variation for wines of this age.
