Description

There are three lots of one bottle each of the 1971 Chateau Cos d'Estournel, a second growth Bordeaux from the commune of St Estephe.

The bottles have been stored its entire life in a traditional, cool, dark cellar; removed from said cellar in mid February 2012. All three bottles are in excellent condition: labels are slightly faded / bin soiled and have a few small nicks but otherwise in perfect condition, fills are top shoulder, foil and capsule intact.

I have opened a bottle from this parcel and it was still incredibly youthful: lively red fruits, with a slight earthy / gravelly note, fresh acidity and generosity on the mid palate. I was rather surprised by how well it has aged and really does seem very vibrant. I showed this very same bottle to an MW at a tasting and such was the freshness and youth that he guessed it as being 'a late nineties Pauillac'

An incredible chance to try a properly cellared mature second growth at possibly a fraction of its current release price.

With regards to non-normal Cos d'Estournel labels. I have emailed Berry Bros & Rudd and received confirmation that they indeed shipped bottles of 1971 Cos d'Estournel with the labels shown in the picture. Just in case there were any worries.
