Description

Although not a particularly good level, this First-Growth 1979 Lafite-Rothschild appears to have a good colour and should have a fighting chance of being a superb bottle of wine:-

"Fruity, deep and firm, filled with plum and cherry, backed by youthful, stiff tannins. Needs time for complexity to develop".
(92 Points)

James Suckling. (The Wine Spectator. Lafite-Rothschild Vertical. November 1991).

"From the famously tannic 1979 vintage, this Lafite is proving the more dismissive critics from earlier days wrong as it settles harmoniously into maturity with plenty of life and complexity remaining. At K&L, we are champions of great wines from lesser vintages, and here is a perfectly mature first growth from a lesser vintage that may not be out of reach in price. Fans of classic wines from the Left Bank with preferences that favour the leathery and refined end of the spectrum will find much to appreciate here. Anyone who can get his hands on a bottle of is in for a real treat!".

Above quote from K & L Wine Merchants,who are currently retailing a 75cl bottle of 1979 Lafite-Rothschild for US$524.99.

The most recent tasting note on the 1979 Lafite-Rothschild on CellarTracker:-

and from the professional wine taster Richard Jennings:-

"Bricking medium dark red violet color; appealing, mature, tart cassis, iodine, pencil lead nose; tasty, mature, tart currant, pencil lead, cedar palate; medium-plus finish".
