Description

In Robert Parker's book "Bordeaux.A Comprehensive Guide" he says that there were a number of successful wine in 1981,particularly in such appellations as Pomerol,St.Julien, and Pauillac. He singles out Leoville Las Cases as being one of the best wines from St.Julien:-

"An excellent deep, ruby color,a spicy bouquet of cedar, tobacco, and currants, and good depth and ripeness.A classic, elegantly wrought wine, this is one vintage where the final blend was more complex, but no better than the Cabernet Sauvignon cuvee".(Component grape varietals tasted separately out of barrel). Last tasted,March 1995.
(89 Points).

Robert Parker. (Bordeaux. A Comprehensive Guide. Third Edition).

"Deep and densely coloured wine,red-purple with a hint of mahogony.Wonderful blackcurrant and currant flavours.quite rich and yet a touch austere.A velvety texture, with a big structure, and a strong acidic backbone. An incredible but slightly austere length".
(17.5+/20 Points).

Chris Kissack. (Winedoctor. September 2001).

The last five tasting notes on CellarTracker from May 2014 to date have awarded the Leoville Las Cases 1981 between 90 and 95 Points.
