Description

The Leoville Barton from the legendary 1982 vintage has produced differing tasting notes from the following wine cognoscenti:-

"With massive, huge concentration, excruciating tannin, this earthy, meaty St.Julian has everything, but it needs to be forgotten for 10-15 years. At this tasting,it did not appear to have budged since the last time I had it and it did not taste terribly different than it did at age five. While it is remarkably concentrated,it is hard to rate it any higher, because it may take another 25 years to reach full maturity.Even with this level of concentration, one can never be sure if the level of fruit will hold.Nevertheless,I have plenty of confidence in it".
(90+ Points).

Robert Parker. (The Wine Advocate. #183. June 2009).

"Red-ruby.Highly aromatic nose of raspberry,redcurrant,graphite,licorice,and cedar.Leanish,dry,and classic,with firm acidity.Lovely and traditional,with terrific finesse and grip.Still evolving".
(91+ Points).

Stephen Tanzer. (International Wine Cellar. August 2002).

"The 1982 Leoville Barton may prove to be the best Leoville Barton made in the last 30 years. It is very concentrated as well as backward and tannic".
"The late Ronald Barton claimed that this was the greatest wine that he had made. What praise!".

Above excerpts from Robert Parker's "The Wine Advocate. #95. October 1994".

"What an utter shocker! If I told you how this bottle came into my possession you would never believe it! I may have to keep that a secret. This was clearly a "great bottle" from the vintage. Massive nose of iodine, meat, bacon, scorched tar, black fruit, burnt rubber, and pencil. Blind, I may have pegged this being a La La. The palate is incredibly concentrated and focused. Earth, beef blood, black tea, plum, cassis, iron, tar, and a very long pencil finish. A monster! Huge tannins, but they melt away. The wine peels away over the palate in layer after layer. This particular bottle was very close in quality to a well sorted 82 Gruaud Larose".
(96 Points).
