Chateau Rausan (now Rauzan)-Segla is now firmly established as a Bordeaux Super-Second wine and in recent years has become very fashionable.
The 1983 vintage was outstanding for the Margaux appellation,especially for the top chateaux - Margaux,Palmer and Rausan-Segla.These wines continue to perform at the top level and still have enough fruit and tannin to maintain their quality level and longevity.Because of the rare and unique perfumes and aromatics produced by these great Margaux wines,they continue to command very high retail prices.
"Fully mature, this has always been one of the best wines of the vintage. The stunning aromatics soar out of the glass, offering up notes of acacia flower intermixed with black currants, smoke, tobacco, and incense. A luscious texture in a beautifully concentrated but very pure, medium to full-bodied style displays layers of flavor as well as a seamlessness that is endearing if not compelling. The wine is a beauty and is the first vintage to signal the return of Rausan-Segla to the ranks of a quality Bordeaux chateau".

The 1983 Rausan-Segla has achieved consistently high points ratings,as the last 16 tasting notes on Cellartracker have awarded it between 90 and 95 Points.A more recent tasting note on this wine:-
"Dark red color with a more subtle 4mm bricked edge. Double decanted for 40 minutes. Drank 1 glass over 90 minutes. This is what we hope and strive for in every bottle of Bordeaux we open. At a mere 35 years it is perfectly integrated, a sublime wine with a soft texture and polished well integrated tannins. There is a great mix of dried herbs, red berries, leather, cigar box, violets and more delicate wood spices on the nose which transitions seamlessly into an expansive palate with a long finish. This has wonderful presence with a sexy feminine style, and it is aging oh so gracefully. For me this is a perfect mix of tertiary and secondary notes where the fruit serves the foundation and might be not be as flashy, but it serves as what everything else is built upon. At peak, this should still deliver a number of good years if well stored".
